DDOT DBE Spotlight: T3 Design Corporation

July 31, 2014 Guest User

T3 Design Corporation has been listed on District Department of Transportation's DBE Spotlight.  A quote from DDOT’s website follows:

"T3 Design Corporation has worked on several Anacostia Waterfront Initiative (AWI) projects, performing design concept and traffic analysis work for the Barney Circle and Southeast Boulevard Transportation Study and South Capitol Street Trail.

Established in 2006 in Fairfax, VA, T3 is a woman-owned small business and Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBE) specializing in transportation planning and engineering. When a new project could affect the flow of traffic in an area, the company uses computer software to model various roadway alternatives.

“We take whatever traffic is going through currently and figure out where it would all go if we put in a new traffic circle, for example,” said Amy Morris, one of T3’s founders. The company then considers various factors such as travel times, roadway capacity, traffic queuing and intersection operation (a measure of how long each traffic signal could delay drivers). Before going back to school to earn her degree in transportation engineering, Morris worked in operations management in package delivery. She said she got into engineering to solve problems and to make a positive difference in the community.

“These [AWI projects] are real-world solutions,” Morris said. “These are things that affect people’s daily lives — being able to bicycle to work or for exercise. We are thrilled to be part of a group that’s looking to revitalize a city.”

Morris advises other DBE’s to expand their network of contacts and emphasize good communication techniques.

“The biggest words of wisdom I have are that business is all about people. You think engineering is all about building bridges, building roads, but it all comes down to people, making contacts and meeting captains of industry,” Morris said. “Trade organizations are a great place to meet decision makers. Once you get your chance, do really good work and be very communicative.”"
