Transportation and Roadway Engineer II

Job Summary

T3 Design Corporation has an immediate opening for a transportation and/or traffic engineer with 5-7 years of experience.

We are looking for a motivated, self-starter who loves creating real world solutions for transportation issues facing our region while working shoulder-to-shoulder with a group of young, dynamic engineering professionals in a casual working environment. Responsibilities/Duties

The candidate will be expected to manage task orders and small projects, as well as work under the direction of a project manager for larger efforts. The successful candidate will be able to work independently or as part of a team, as necessary, and may also be responsible for leading small teams. Typical projects include, but are not limited to, roadway improvements, storm drainage, and stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, traffic signal design, and maintenance of traffic.

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The ideal candidate will possess the following experience:

  • Demonstrated experience applying roadway design criteria, basic stormwater management regulations and hydraulic roadway design in Virginia, Maryland and/or District of Columbia

  • Demonstrated experience applying local, state and federal transportation rules, regulations, standards and specifications in Virginia, Maryland and/or District of Columbia

  • Client coordination and communication

  • Leadership and team communication

Education/Training and Experience

  • Bachelors of Engineering Degree (or higher) in Civil Engineering from an accredited university

  • Proficiency with MicroStation (with Open Roads experience or training desired)

  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills

  • Minimum of 5 years experience

  • P.E. license in Virginia preferred or ability to obtain license within six months of hire

Engineering Technician II

Basic Function

Provide valuable support to engineers in the planning, design and construction of transportation projects. Perform a wide variety of routine to moderately difficult field and office sub-professional engineering tasks. Have knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures.  Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Lead and/or perform data collection including traffic counts and traffic studies

  • Lead and/or perform field surveys, photographing, recording data and making diagrams of infrastructure and roadways

  • Record information gathered in surveys or studies into various computer programs

  • Set up, install, repair and maintain a variety of engineering field equipment

  • Assist engineers in the preparation of detailed drawings, plans and designs

  • Assist engineers in cost estimates for design

  • Perform routine engineering calculations

  • Perform other related work, as assigned or apparent

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Computer literacy, math aptitude, use of computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software such as MicroStation

  • Physical ability to walk up to two miles per day

  • Strong interpersonal skills, be able to read road maps, and follow oral and written instructions quickly and accurately

Education/Training and Experience

  • Associates Degree in Engineering Technology and CADD experience plus three years of experience or demonstrated proficiency

Engineer I

T3 Design Corporation is seeking a highly qualified Engineer to use their problem-solving skills to determine and design solutions to real-world transportation issues.  Under the direction and supervision of a Project Manager, provide technical support in the planning, development and design of transportation projects.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Plan and lead or perform routine field surveys photographing, recording data and making diagrams of infrastructure and roadways

  • Collect data on road geometry, land development, and traffic

  • Perform calculations using engineering skills for development of design and studies

  • Use specialized computer software to analyze and model data and create alternatives

  • Research design options and document findings

  • Assist with organizing and maintaining project files

  • Follow agency and T3 design standards

  • Assist in writing reports for engineering studies, by using T3 standards

  • Create figures and tables for inclusion in study reports

  • Use engineering drawing software for plan development and design

  • Use engineering analysis software to perform analysis tasks

  • Support the preparation of design computations and quantity estimates

  • Occasional field work and exposure to weather

  • Perform other related work, as assigned or apparent

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong program solving skills and critical thinking

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong time management and interpersonal skills

  • Basic (at a minimum) knowledge of software such as Microstation, AutoCAD, and ArcGIS, as well as Synchro, HCS, VISSIM, and SIDRA

Engineer II

T3 Design Corporation is seeking a highly qualified Engineer II that can work independently and under direction and supervision of a Project Manager to provide technical support in the planning, development and design of transportation projects. The Engineer II will also support the training and oversight of junior staff.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Requires greater level of responsibility and independence than an Engineer I

  • Plan and lead or perform routine field surveys photographing, recording data and making diagrams of infrastructure and roadways

  • Lead field team to collect data on road geometry, land development, and traffic

  • Perform design calculations using engineering skills for development of design and studies

  • Use specialized computer software to analyze and model data and create alternatives

  • Research design options and document findings

  • Organize and maintain project files

  • Ensure drawings and designs are in accordance with agency and T3 design standards

  • Write reports for engineering studies in accordance with T3 production and design standards

  • Create figures and tables for inclusion in study reports in accordance with T3 production and design standards

  • Use engineering drawing software for plan development and design

  • Use engineering analysis software to perform analysis tasks and draft findings and conclusions

  • Prepare quantity and cost estimates

  • Attend client meetings and support Project Manager

  • Occasional field work and exposure to weather

  • Train and review work completed by junior level staff

  • Perform other related work, as assigned or apparent

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong time management and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to function as both a team leader and as a team member, depending on the assignment

  • Basic (at a minimum) knowledge of software such as Microstation, AutoCAD, and ArcGIS, as well as Synchro, HCS, VISSIM, and SIDRA. Physically able to walk up to 2 miles

  • Experience in traffic engineering studies, data collection and analysis, or design

  • Knowledge of traffic engineering principles, standards, regulations and practices

Education/Training and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field

  • 4-7 years of relevant experience or demonstrated proficiency

  • EIT required, P.E. preferred
